Trading Journal Entry For 4-2-2014

We took the day off from trading yesterday (April fools day) because we have never known it to treat us well, so we years ago just began skipping it when it falls on a trading day. Silly, I know, but there you go anyway. And it was probably a good thing that we did because we were hoping for, and probably would have bet on the US indices failing to break those highs for the third time in the last month. But apparently, third time really is the charm, and the S&P500 finished the day yesterday at new all-time highs. And it was a re-run moment today, with the last two hours of trading accounting for all of the day’s gains, which left the S&P500 index sitting at the 1,890 level by the closing bell, for another new all-time high.

Boy this booming economy sure is nice isn’t it? What booming economy you ask. Hmm, good question actually. Well then, monetary inflation for the win it is I guess!

As for our trading today, we did things much differently than usual, making all of our trades using the GOptions ladder options contracts. One of our favorite new trading instruments (currently only available at a very few brokers, but sure to spread across the industry in time). And because these trades are generally made for smaller amounts than standard high/low trades (due to their generally riskier nature) we made more trades than usual today as well. All-in-all, it went pretty decently we think, and we made some fun and interesting trades along the way.

Ladder Options Trades For 4/2/2014

Unfortunately, we didn’t grab screenshots of every single trade’s charts. And with how many ladder trades we made it would have made for a very long post to include pictures and detailed explanations of all of them anyway. So, instead we’ll just have to settle for the few chart images we did grab, the individual summaries for each trade, and of course an image of the expired trades totals so you can see the outcome and stats for every trade we made. We did grab shots of the opening charts for the first two trades though, so we’ll start with those.

Whew! And that brings us to the end of our trades for today, Wednesday the 2nd of April. We made a grand total of seven (7) ladder option trades, and none of any other contract variety. Out of those seven trades, two were OTM losers, one was a rare TIE, and the other four were ITM winners. With a few of them being very high percentage winners this easily made for overall profitability for the day’s trading. Let’s take a look at the precise numbers below.

Above is the screenshot showing all of our expired trading positions for the day, along with all the relevant statistics and outcomes for each. But lucky for you, we did all the work for you below.

Daily Investment Totals For 4/2/2014

Total Trades Made: Seven (7) Ladder Option Trades
Trade Outcomes: Four (4) ITM + Two (2) OTM + One (1) TIE
Total Investments Made: $300.00
Total Returns Received: $369.17
Daily Profit/Loss Totals: + $69.17 Profit
Daily ROI: + 23.06% Daily ROI (Return On Investment)

Clearly we’re not getting rich any time soon with profits like this, but considering that we only risked a total of $300, spread over seven different trades that is a pretty darn respectable outcome. We’ll take it anyway. Well, so far this week now we’ve gotten in two days of trading, and had two days of mild profitability. Not bad, but we’ll see how the next two days go. Until next time, trade smart and be lucky folks!
